Coronavirus Precautions – how to stay healthy.

How to stay healthy and what precautions the public should take with regards to the recent Coronavirus outbreak in the UK and how Coronavirus and CBD interact.

The World health organisation (WHO) has standard recommendations for the general public to reduce chances of exposure and transmission of the virus. These typically include hand and respiratory hygiene, and safe food practices.We will also look into Coronavirus transmitted in cats and Coronavirus transmitted in dogs as well.

Precautions people should take:

Clean hands often by utilising alcohol-based hand sanitizer:

  • When sneezing or coughing, cover mouth and nose with either a flexed elbow or tissue – throwing away the tissue immediately not only slows down transmission but is better for general health, washing hands afterwards with an alcohol based hand sanitizer.
  • Where possible, avoid contact with those with a fever or cough.
  • If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing seek medical care early and share previous travel history with your health care provider;
  • When visiting live markets in areas currently experiencing cases of novel coronavirus, avoid direct unprotected contact with live animals and surfaces in contact with animals;
  • The consumption of raw or undercooked animal products should be avoided. Raw meat, milk or animal organs should be handled with care, to avoid cross-contamination with uncooked foods, as per good food safety practices.

Cats and Dogs – Coronavirus:

Yes your cats and dogs can get Coronavirus, but it isn’t as scary as first sounding.

Research shows that a large proportion of animals can get versions of the virus, such as Avian Coronavirus, Porcine Coronavirus and Bovine Coronavirus for instance. Dogs can get canine coronavirus which causes vomiting, diarrhoea and intestinal distress which is transmitted via feces. As well as a respiratory form which causes coughs and sneezes within dogs.

Cats can have a milder version, which causes flu like symptoms or none at all; however a small percentage can get a fatal feline infectious peritonitis which is fatal.

Coronavirus and CBD

There is no research to suggest that CBD can stop coronavirus, however the anti-inflammatory properties of cannabidiol can have a positive influence on its flu-like symptoms. If possible, always consult with a doctor before taking any new medication or food supplement.
